KIDS NEED MARTIAL ARTS
IN THEIR LIVES

Black Mountain Spirit teaches Traditional Chinese Martial Arts as paths of spiritual development and self-defense. Our students learn that to defend themselves and respect others go hand in hand. Kids who learn with us are taught to avoid conflict and diffuse dangerous situations. The emphasis on humility, compassion, and respect for everyone regardless of their abilities or background is of utmost importance.

Your Dreams are Our Dreams

Here at the Black Mountain Spirit School of Chinese Kung Fu have been making dreams come true since 1997. Although sometimes the odds may be stacked against you, a strong, positive mentor, a good moral compass, and the support of loved ones and/or professionals will bring you the results you desire in shaping your life.
Your life’s compass is set early on and determined by the positive, and negative, influences in one’s life. Our sole purpose in presenting our Scholar Warrior program is to give children and young adults the guideposts of critical thinking, situational analysis, compassionate action, and strength needed for self-determination and success both in early childhood and beyond.

The best chance we have of keeping our children safe and out of trouble is to give them positive activities and outlets for their energy. Our Scholar Warrior martial arts programs are designed to do just that.
Our teaching staff gets to know your children on a personal level, and even though classes are conducted in group settings, an enourmous amount of energy is focused on 1-on-1 attention. Doing this not only allows for the best care possible, but it also opens up learning abilities and helps us improve our teaching methods for each individual child.
I and my staff help children from age 5 to begin developing the traits that’ll take them farthest in the society they’ll grow up to live in. We instill in them a sense of both confidence and responsibility, which leads to incredible character development. Our talented staff is enthusiastic and highly motivated in helping each child regardless of ability or background achieve their own personal goals and highest potentials. Having undergone the Traditional Chinese Martial Arts curriculum for a number of years themselves, these well-trained and highly qualified individuals represent the best of what can be experienced through TCMA training.
We are excited to share useful ways of learning and tools to give your child the ability to grow to their fullest potential while at the same time learning goal attainment, patience, how to work well with others, and mutual respect, all while having fun!
With that in mind, know that we make it a priority to provide a clean and safe learning environment that is always open to parents’ suggestions. Our focus of keeping your child on track and growing as a positive member of society is our number one priority.

Here at Black Mountain Spirit our Kung Fu for Kids curriculum is designed to give children the confidence they need to succed in life. They learn that through focus and hard work they’re able to achieve the goals that are set before them & that they set themselves. This is the cornerstone of developing a positive self-image, respect for self, and respect for others and their achievements. These lessons are learned while gaining healthy dose of exercise, self-discipline, & concentration – all while having fun!
And no one can dispute that the benefits of exercise – greater physical ability, learning how to deal with and eliminate stress, having less body fat – all contribute to having a more positive self-image.

Ok, What Happens During a Scholar Warrior Class?

"I want every single child to belive in themselves."

Exercise

Exercise: complete range of motion exercises combined, through the lense of modern medical science, and his 35 years of personal experience working with thousands of different people of all ages and physical levels of ability.

Watch Now

Each week has a specific theme, such as 1, Respect

Each week a new tidbit of information concerning Chinese Cultural practices that are still in use or relevant today that are a direct result of Chinese Martial Arts practice and history.
Children learn how to express themselves physically. The vocabulary of movement allows them to magically transform their bodies into ferocious Tigers, Graceful Cranes, and even Coiling Dragons! Our classes teach young students to use their imagination in completely new and exciting ways!

Each week has a specific skills set

Each week a new series of techniques are introduced in order to expand the movement vocabulary of young students. The variety of techniques addresses the same wide variety of skills associated with all hand-eye coordination exercises including strength, flexibility, dexterity, and an understanding of the special relationships of their own bodies. As their understanding and experience of their bodies grows, they are able to build each new layer of knowledge upon the previous building an ever widening and enlarging vocabulary of movements that makes each class more fun and exciting than the last!

Partner drilling

Although the benefits of training techniques with partners is pretty obvious (and exciting) from a martial arts perspective, our interest is in a reason a little less obvious. We want to train young children to learn how to work with each other. How to become more socially active, how to problem solve in developmental and meaningful ways when conflicts arise, and to understand that there are rewards for working with each other towards common goals versus working against each other.

Skills Review Sessions

Throughout the course of their training, review sessions are run intermittently to ensure  retention of the material being taught. Our goal is to have each of our students actually learn the material that’s being taught to them so that they’re able to continue enjoying the experience long after the program has ended. This also ensures that if they wish to continue on in another program at a later date the foundation that has been laid is strong and will serve them well.

Art & cultural awareness

Final Exam
Graduation

Finally, the program participants are given a Final Exam. This is where the kids get to strut their stuff! It’s an opportunity for the children to have their hard work and progress acknowledged publicly. It’s a chance to show off the skills that they’ve developed with all of their hard work and to stand in pride of their accomplishments. At the very end, they are presented with a Certificate of Completion by the Senior Instructor himself and they are verbally acknowledged in front of all witnesses as the newest members of this fine Shaolin Kung Fu Tradition!

Conveniently located right off the parkway at The Waterfront in Homestead, access to neighborhoods in the greater Pittsburgh area is no more than 20 minutes away!

Whether we’re conducting workshops or programs at your in-house facility location or at our own traditional school of Chinese Martial Arts practice, we’re no more than a hop, skip, and a jump (across the bridge!) both to and from anywhere in the city!
