Welcome to Black Mountain Spirit!

If your interest is in Self Defense, Exercise, Spirituality/Philosophy, or even just martial history, you will find a vast repertoire of knowledge & ability to draw from here at He Shan Shen. Stress reduction, flexibility, & overall general health improvement can usually be experienced within the first month of practice, & this experience becomes stronger as you develop a deeper awareness of your self & your state of being growing with each day of practice. Strength development, discipline, stress management, meditative awareness,  these are just a few of the experiences that will greet you as you pass through the gate of traditional kung fu training with us.

The curriculum is broad & taught by instructors truly devoted to their arts & the students who come to train with them.
Classes for children & adults, from beginner to advanced, all find a friendly & supportive environment with Black Mountain Spirit.

Chinese boxing is carefully studied & practiced in it’s entirety, ranging from traditional empty hand & weapons forms training, to the more specialized arts such as Qin Na, Qi Gong, Shuai Jiao. Special emphasis is placed on developing the personal being through Seated & Moving Meditation.

If you are interested in training in this way of personal development, you are encouraged to visit a few classes. We do not have an introductory course (charge/fee) & we don’t close the doors or pull the blinds when we begin training. We do not hold onto our material selfishly, we are not in competition with other martial arts studios. We are a school, we are here to teach. We have a very open door policy, any & all are welcome.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL
Black Mountain Spirit School of Chinese Kung Fu was founded in the late 1970’s by Grandmaster Anton Haddad, then called the Black Dragon School of Chinese Kung Fu. In it’s latest incarnation of Black Mountain Spirit, the emphasis on spiritual development in the realms of Qi Gong & metaphysical knowledge/awareness has been successful towards enhancing the personal development of each & every practitioner. Taoist & Buddhist philosophy are the cornerstones of this practice, & while all vehicles of spirituality are explored, the heritage of The Tao & Dharma carry with them deep introspections into our personal being.

SELF DEFENSE
Our programs are incredibly effective. Many of our members actually work in law-enforcement positions. Students are taught how to take into account the natural resources of strength, speed, weight & power - both in themselves & in their opponent, & use techniques that are appropriate to the situation. We use the entire body as our instrument. We not only use almost every surface of the body for the purposes of attack/defense, but we use a whole body power in each technique. That means that we use the combined forces of our entire body through proper training of alignment, structure & principle in order to release all of the available energy in a single stroke. But unlike the cannon-blast methods of other styles, we train to release a consecutive series of such strokes, in order to continue a fluid movement from technique to technique, and if necessary, from opponent to opponent. Whether armed or unarmed against an opponent(s) with or without weapons, you will learn to maintain a calm & centered state of mind in order to see the situation out to a favorable outcome, whether that situation is confrontation on the street or in the workplace, whether it requires harsh blows or harsh words, or a soft redirection of an attackers punch or a relatives attitude. You will be prepared.

EXERCISE
Northern Shaolin Temple Boxing. Yang Style Taijiquan. Baguazhang. Each of the styles taught at Black Mountain Spirit approaches exercise from a different angle. Increased flexibility,  muscle tone/mass, better blood circulation, enhanced coordination, the strengthening & elongation of tendon/ligaments, arthritis/rheumatoid pain suppression, serious cardiovascular activity,  increased metabolic function & greater endurance are just a few of the benefits derived from our training here at Black Mountain Spirit.
